TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Tupelo area Girl Scouts were downtown, Saturday, to help notify area residents about the upcoming Race for the Cure.

Members of the Girl Scouts Heart of the South chapter gathered at Fair Park for Pink the Streets.

Their job was to fan out along the route of the Susan G. Komen North Mississippi Race for the Cure to visit local businesses and residents and pass out flyers about the event.

Girl Scouts spokeswoman Jenny Jones says the girls understand the importance of breast cancer awareness.

“This is primarily a women’s issue and so it is something that we want to be a part of so that they can continue to have cancer research and hopefully find a cure,” Jones said.

Jones says the girls also put together care bags to give to cancer patients at the cancer center.

The Race for the Cure will be held on Saturday October 26 at Fair Park.
