CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — North Mississippi poll workers are preparing for the crowds, as Mississippi voters head to the polls in just hours.

County officials are keeping busy before Election Day.

“Getting all the absentee ballots ready is the main thing, getting the boxes packed, passing those out to the poll, the receiving returning managers, and answering a bunch of questions,” said Bob Harrell, Clay County circuit court clerk.

Harrell says they’ve already had a good number of absentee votes – about 450 in all – and he’s expecting voter turnout to be good Tuesday, as well.

“It’s not near as good as a presidential, or county wide race, but it’ll still be a large turnout,” Harrell said.

Same with Webster County.

“Normally in our county, we have anywhere from 65 percent to 70 percent turnout,” said Wanda Robinson, Webster County deputy circuit  clerk.

If you’re voting, workers say to make sure to bring your voter ID. You can still vote without one, but it makes things more difficult.

“They’ll just have to vote paper ballot, which would be an affidavit ballot, and then they have five working days to come to our office, and show us their ID, and then we’ll determine whether their vote can count or not,” Robinson said.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

To find out where your voting precinct is, go to the Mississippi secretary of state website, or your county’s website.
