VERONA, MISS. (WCBI) – This delivery required extra help.

120 pizzas were donated to Verona Elementary Monday.

“I have been here ten years and this is the first time anyone in the community has done something this big for our students at Verona elementary school,” said Principal Tameka Shannon.

Whitehill Missionary Baptist Church Pastor Jeffery Daniel organized the pizza project. He is no stranger to this campus. Each week, pastor Daniel reads to second graders and his wife helps fourth graders with math. The pastor says he wanted to do something to help students academically, and the pizza party was a great way to reward everyone for their success and hard work.through the school year.

“At first we were going to do it with the second grade class and then we started to say maybe the whole second grade, thought about it and said that wouldn’t be right let’s do it for the whole school,” Pastor Daniel said.

So, Pastor Daniel contacted a friend at Renasant Bank, who was happy to help out.

“We like to give back to education cause this is our future,” said Fred Cook, of Renasant Bank.

Students, who had just come from an end of school awards ceremony, appreciated the tasty gesture.

“I’m liking it,” said Jordan Ambrose.

“ We are enjoying it,” said Sariya Edwards.

“That pastor’s a good pastor,” said Carmyn Robinson.

Pastor Daniel and his wife plan to be back here next school year and he encourages other churches, businesses and individuals to do the same thing in their communities. He points out it takes only a little bit of time but makes a big difference in the lives of these young people .
