LOUISVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – A whole host of churches come together to make sure many enjoyed a delicious meal this day we show appreciation to God and man.

After a prayer of thanksgiving led by ministers, volunteers from over five dozen church congregations took on the task of serving a hot meal for those coming into South Louisville Baptist Church.

“I know it means a lot to the community that everybody came out and helped. And it really awesome thing what we are doing here today,” said Marlee Parkes, Volunteer.

“Not really, just whatever we are able to accommodate. We really don’t know from year to year,” said Aline Haynes, Louisville.

In the spirit of the season the young and old, rich and not so rich, blacks and whites; gave their time, effort, and their love to the cause.

“I still remember the signs during the segregation era when I was little. And I just had to hold back tears when we were all standing in a circle holding hands and came together to feed the hungry in body and soul,” said Courtney Collins, Belfast, Maine.

“And we know that here there are people who are not able to provide a Thanksgiving lunch for today. So that really touched my heart, and that’s what made me start it in the first place,” said Haynes.

Feeding the needy at this time of the year has become a tradition, one they hope continues for some time to come.

“And if they don’t have a family this is like, this could be their family,” said Parkes.

“I traveled all the way from Belfast Maine and I’m just so happy to be here,” said Collins.

At South Louisville Baptist Church volunteers fed over eleven hundred people last year. For them this is their 12th year of feeding the needy.
