Lowndes County Emergency Management, 911 Offices Could See Expansion

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County’s cramped emergency management and 911 offices may get a little more breathing room.

Supervisors today suggested they may use interest from the county’s $30 million hospital sale trust fund to expand those offices.

They now are located on the east side of the county courthouse in space that has begun to develop mold and other problems. Supervisors say expanding the building to the east would make use of existing fiber optic lines while giving dispatchers and administrators additional space for offices, training rooms and equipment.

Supervisors agreed to take about $922,000 from interest on the trust, and put in a special account for one-time capital projects later this year.
