LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department deputies have put four behind bars in two separate cases.

The first arrest came during a roadblock conducted by Lowndes County deputies last Friday in the area of Armstrong Rd. and Yorkville Rd.

According to a press release provided by the LCSO, at some point during the checkpoint, deputies encountered 44-year-old Columbus resident Jeffery Sanders, who was reportedly driving with a suspended license. Further investigation led to the discovery of crack cocaine in Sanders’ possession. He was charged for possession of crack cocaine and driving with a suspended license.

Sanders is currently detained at the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center; bond has not been set.

In a separate case, a traffic stop conducted Sunday morning on Alabama St. yielded three arrests.

Per the release, after initiating a routine traffic stop, a LCSO deputy “could immediately smell the odor of marijuana” after approaching the vehicle.

The deputy identified Columbus residents Brett Evans, 34, Demarco Stewart, 34, and Lastar Boykin, 33, inside the vehicle.

After conducting a search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy inside the vehicle. All three individuals were charged with possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of ecstasy (MDMA). They are currently detained in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center; bond has not been set.
