LOWNDES/NOXUBEE COUNTIES, Miss. (WCBI) — Some new faces will be in Lowndes County schools this fall. And not just teachers and students.

Columbus-based Bel Star Security has been awarded the contract to provide security officers for each of the Lowndes district’s campuses. Citadel previously had the contract.

The new deal calls for four officers each at the Caledonia and New Hope campuses and three at the west Lowndes schools.

Noxubee County is also partnering with Lowndes County to help disruptive students.

Noxubee is contracting with its larger neighbor for 13 spots in Lowndes’ alterative school at the old West Lowndes Middle School.

Noxubee will pay Lowndes County $6,500 per student for up to 13 students.

Noxubee County hopes the deal will save it money while still providing good service to students.
