LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — The Golden Triangle could one day have a 4-H center and Exhibition Hall that could host everything from regional fairs to horse and cattle shows.

Lowndes County supervisors Monday asked the state Legislature to help fund the center, which would be built on 30 acres west of Paccar owned by the Lowndes County Industrial Authority.

Oktibbeha and Clay counties will be asked to approve similar resolutions.

4-H Extension agent Reed Nevins has pushed the idea as a way to encourage growth in school 4-H programs in the three counties.

While being a home for 4-H, the center also could host a variety of events for the region including programs in conjunction with MSU and EMCC.

Lowndes District 1 Supervisor and Board President Harry Sanders says the  Legislature will be asked for $250,000 in planning money and eventually for funding to be matched by the local governments.

The late state Sen. Terry Brown already had begun pushing the project in the Legislature before his death in September. Senator-elect Chuck Younger, who is filling Brown’s District 17 seat, has taken up the cause as has state Rep. Jeff Smith, who is chairman of the influential House Ways and Means Committee.
