Loyalties Stretched for South Alabama Prez

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Doctor John Smith says he’s a South Alabama Jaguar fan but no one can blame him this weekend if he sometimes is conflicted about who to cheer for in the NCAA baseball regional in Starkville.

Of the four teams in the Starkville regional, Smith has ties to three.

He earned his doctorate in education from MSU and was assistant director of housing while there.

He then went to Central Arkansas, which plays State tonight, where he held a variety of administrative positions, including interim president.

From there, he went to South Alabama in 2007 and recently was named acting president.
