M.D.O.C. Rehabilitation Program Could End

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – Mississippi lawmakers want to get rid of the Regimented Inmate Disciple program ran by the department of corrections.

The intensive paramilitary program is used to help rehabilitate offenders for a short period of time.

Tuesday the state House voted to scrap the program.

Supporters of the legislation say the recidivism rate for inmates in the RID program is higher than the overall state prison rate.

House Bill 906 now goes to the Senate for debate.
