COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus gets a little Midday excitement when an S-U-V almost crashes into a downtown business.

James Poster, 77, was southbound on 5th Street when he lost control of his Chevrolet Tahoe, ran up on the sidewalk and crashed into a utility pole just feet from the entrance to the Fashion Barn.

He suffered only minor injuries and was treated at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital.

He was charged with DUI, no insurance and driving on a suspended license.

A female who was in the Tahoe got out and walked away following the crash.

Police say it’s fortunate no one else was driving through the busy intersection when the accident happened at 11:45 this morning.
