LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A 48-year-old Lowndes County man is found guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of his wife’s boyfriend.

George Strickland faces up to 20 years when he is sentenced Wednesday in Lowndes County Circuit Court.

A seven-woman, five-man jury deliberated almost four hours today before finding him guilty of the lesser charge. He originally was charged with murder in the shooting death of 36-year-old Christopher George inside Strickland’s Highway 50 home in eastern Lowndes County in January 2011.

George was shot several times with a handgun. The jury found him not guilty of aggravated assault for shooting at his wife.

Prosecutors argued Strickland went looking to kill both George and his wife, Sheila Strickland. But he claimed he shot in self defense during an altercation.
