Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Wreck

GUNTOWN– A wreck between an 18-wheeler and car claimed the life of a 58-year old man.

The wreck happened shortly after six Thursday afternoon, forcing southbound U.S. Hwy 45 to be temporarily shut down.

Authorities said it appeared the car was traveling north on Hwy 45, heading to Colbolt Lane. The car appeared to have turned in front of oncoming traffic and was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Guntown Police Chief Michael Hall said, ” The 18-wheeler tried to avoid him, but there was a car in the left lane. There was also a vehicle at the stop sign trying to turn onto Highway 45.”

After being hit, the man was partially ejected from the car.  He was extracted from the car by emergency personnel and transported to North Mississippi Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The truck driver was uninjured.

The accident is under investigation.
