STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Ground was broken this morning in Starkville for the fifth Maroon Edition Habitat for Humanity House. Mississippi State University and Habitat for Humanity teamed up again to build this years house. The partnership is a service-learning component of the university’s Maroon Edition First-Year Reading Experience. Students, faculty and staff volunteer to build a house throughout the fall semester.

This years home recipient, Raven Hendrix told WCBI, ‘We are excited about it. We always wanted a home and we appreciate it form the Habitat community to have something of your own…you know to call your own. Because, where we’ve been now it’s been 8 years. I look at what that could have been going toward; something of my own.’

This years house is located at 115 Beattie Street. Volunteers hope to be finished with the house by Thanksgiving.
