Mayor Shelton Receives National Recognition

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The cable news network MSNBC recently broadcasted on its morning show The Daily Rundown a list of first-term elected officials to watch in state politics and Tupelo’s Mayor Jason Shelton made the list.

The Daily Rundown featured Alabama and Mississippi’s “rising stars” last week and posted the episode on the MSNB website Monday.

Shelton’s time in office has been no picnic.

His term as mayor has included the shooting death of a police officer and injury of another during a bank robbery, as well as dealing with the aftermath of the Apr. 28th tornado.

Shelton attributes the recognition of his leadership and success to a great team effort.

Other Mississippi politicians that made the list were Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber, State Treasurer Lynn Fitch, and LT. Governor Tate Reeves.
