LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — One of Lowndes County’s high-tech military contractors feels the brunt of federal budget cuts.

Stark Aerospace has confirmed that it let some workers go last month. Company President Tom Ronaldi would not disclose the number of layoffs but blamed the reductions on uncertainty over cuts to military spending and changes in health care costs.

The Israeli-owned company makes high-tech drones for the Pentagon and repairs the microchip systems that make them work.

Ronaldi says the company has new opportunities pending that should mean new jobs as they “mature over several years.”
