Missing Phil Campbell Hunters Found

MOULTON, Ala. (AP) – Two lost hunters are safe after spending a cold, wet night in the Bankhead National Forest in northwest Alabama. The men made it to a road on Monday, and a passing driver gave them a ride to back to safety.

Lawrence County officials had searched for the men after receiving a call Sunday night that two Phil Campbell men were lost in the forest. They were believed to be equipped with gear for rain and cold weather.

Sheriff’s Capt. Tim McWhorter Mitchell says searchers were in contact with the men by honking horns and shooting guns. But authorities couldn’t locate them in the rough terrain.

The Bankhead forest covers more than 180,000 acres in three counties.
