STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Do you have an idea about a new business or phone App? Well some students at Mississippi State University have been competing for money to launch their own businesses.

From weather alerts to online shopping, there’s an app for just about anything. Now, Mississippi State students, who are studying to be the entrepreneurs of the future, want to turn their ideas into cash.

Entrepreneurship week gives Mississippi State University students a chance to share their ideas for products and services ranging from online stores to Apps you can get on your phone.

Robert Underwood, a Senior at MSU, along with his teammates presented their idea on a new App called Weather-Fit.

“It will be a website and then an App. It will tell you to wake up, tell you today’s weather and then what to wear that day. With this App it kind of predicts and it tells you it’s sunny now, but later you should bring a jacket or you should bring an umbrella,” says Robert Underwood.

Each student who presented a business idea had some form of social media and technology involved in their product. Underwood says when creating a business you must incorporate technology in order to reach more consumers.

“With social media growing and technology advancing, being able to give that to the consumers first hand through Apps and so forth, it will just increase productivity and overall ease of day to day operation,” says Underwood.

“I’m going to be presenting my idea “college Drifters” which is an online market place for college students to buy and sale to each other. They can purchase and buy anything from furniture, to electronics, to clothing and also they’ll be a place for them to post listings for a roommate,” says Mercedes Allen.

It was the idea that Mercedes Allen used to win the competition. She now has five thousand dollars to launch her online business.

“I’m still shocked, overly excited right now completely grateful for the opportunity and humbled for the opportunity I have been given,” says Allen.

An opportunity that has put these students in line to change the face of the world wide web.

Friday all the competition winners will go head to head for $10,000 dollars to go toward starting their business.
