Video: Monroe County Memorializes Moore, Ok. Victims

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. – (WCBI)24 white crosses now decorate the lawn at the Monroe County Detention Center, but this display is more than ornamental.

Each cross represents a life lost in the Moore, Oklahoma tornado.

The people of Monroe County are all too familiar with the journey that lies ahead for the tornado victims.16 residents died after an Ef-5 tornado touched down in their county on April 27th of 2011.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell says the memorial is one way to show that love, support and prayers are coming from a storm tattered Monroe County.

” Crosses were made by our inmates here at Monroe County Detention Center. It’s just to represent those 24 lives that were lost. It’s just a small thing, but you now if we’ll stay in prayer,it will be a good thing for our county,” says Cantrell.

The National Weather Service has declared the twister that touched down in Moore, Oklahoma was also an EF-5.
