Monroe Making Progress on Radios

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A major public safety headache in Monroe County is a step closer to being solved.

Monroe County’s communication consultant Jim McCreary told supervisors Friday that most of the problems that have plagued sheriff’s department radio communications for years are fixed.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said his deputies now have few problems anywhere in the county.

The board authorized a study of what it would cost to erect as many as two more towers in the Wren area and western Monroe County near the Chickasaw County line to remove some remaining dead spots for hand-held radios.

And the county will start the process of getting licenses to covert old sheriff’s department radios to use by the county road and solid waste departments and volunteer fire fighters.
