MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Hundreds of Monroe County students got to play in the dirt today… and go to the river and even take a trip in the woods. And it was all in the name of learning.

The Monroe County Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual field day at Aberdeen Lake.

The youngsters went through 12 stations touching on everything from how soil prevents erosion to the valuable things they can find in the forest. They also got important lessons on water safety, the hazards of the more than 7,000 chemicals found in tobacco products and how pollution touches their lives every day.
