MOOREVILLE, MISS. (WCBI) – Students at Mooreville Elementary are taking steps to be prepared for any type of emergency situation, including earthquake preparedness.

It’s a national drill that millions of students take part in on October 16th.

The Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drill helps students prepare in case of an earthquake emergency.

Mississippi lies close to The New Madrid fault line and school officials say this raises the chances for an earthquake to occur.

“We’ve never had a major earthquake, there is a chance that there would be one so we like to be prepared. And you can never be over prepared for something like that,” said Mooreville Elementary Principal, Joanna Peugh.

All of students, nearly 800, at the elementary school participated in the drill.
