STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – One of the main jobs coaches have, at any level, is to motivate their players. The Mississippi State football team and defensive coordinator Geoff Collins talk about “juice.” It’s word, to them, that means energy, drive, fire and passion. They even give out “juice” points to players.

Collins said he doesn’t know where the term comes from.

“I have no idea,” Collins said. “I’m naturally wired. If you’ve ever met my mom, she’s on fire all the time. She’s in her 60s, she’s got as much energy as anyone in the world and that’s just the way I’ve been built, the way I played, the way I coached and the guys that I’m around. I’m excited everyday to come to work.”

Collins says sophomore linebacker Benardrick McKinney is the juice points leader.

“[Collins is] a great coach. He brings juice everyday to practice,” McKinney said. “He inspires us to want to play the game of football every day. We come out every day and give juice.”
