STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)-Today Mississippi State’s Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans launched its new “Green Zone” with a ceremony at the YMCA.

The Green Zone is a campus-wide effort to raise awareness of student veterans attending the university.

The program seeks to promote a positive environment for student veterans while building a support network.

The support network hopes to help veterans making the transition to student life easier as well as navigation of the college and departments. Ken McRae said,

“Our goal to increase graduation, increase retention rates and to help our veterans through the challenges that they may have going from that structured environment to a university environment.”

Since being founded in 2008 the Fairfax, Virginia based foundation has worked to help improve veterans chances for successful graduation in high education.
