MSU, Ole Miss Place Two In Ferriss Trophy Finalists

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Two Mississippi State and two Ole Miss baseball players are nominated among the five finalists for the Ferriss Trophy.

The award is given annually to the top player in the state of Mississippi.

MSU pitchers Ross Mitchell and Jacob Lindgren, Ole Miss outfielder Austin Bousfield and the Rebels’ pitcher Chris Ellis are selected.

Mitchell, a preseason All-American, hasn’t allowed a run in his last 15 ⅓ innings. Lindgren leads the team in ERA (1.02).

Bousfield leads the SEC in batting average and Ellis holds an 8-0 record on the mound.

The winner will be announced May 19 in Jackson, Miss.

State’s Chris Stratton received the award last season.

Fan voting will make up 10% of the final tally. Fans can vote by logging on to csopavoting.com. The voting will last until 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18.
