Video: MSU’s Eco Car 2 Headed to Washington D.C. for National Competition

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Students at Mississippi State have been working around the clock this weekend to prepare their Eco Car for national competition.

This is the 3rd year of the intercollegiate contest that includes 15 schools from around the country. Students are challenged with taking a standard vehicle and transforming it into an electrical hybrid. After last minute check-ups, the car was shipped out this morning for competition. Mississippi State has done well in the contest so far and major motor companies are taking notice.

“Mississippi State has actually patented some technology that we’ve actually developed through this competition and General Motors uses it on some of their production vehicles. Also other competition sponsors, some of the smaller sponsors, will hire engineers out of this competition. So they’re engineers will have already worked with all their systems,” says Yance Falkner, Communications Manager for the Eco Car 2.

The competition is sponsored by General Motors and the Department of Energy. Final presentations will take place in Washington D.C.
