Former Starkville Yellow Jacket Gavin Ware earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors for his play in the past week.

Both his points and rebounds against the Bears were career highs and season highs for any Bulldog player.

The Starkville native is the first Mississippi State player to win this honor since Rodney Hood a year ago.

Against UCA, he connected on 8 of his 9 shots from the floor. For the year, he is averaging 9.0 points on 53.5 percent shooting to go along with his team high 7.1 boards and 1.0 blocks.

MSU (4-6) is off until Dec. 30 when it plays host to Alabama A&M at Humphrey Coliseum in a 3 p.m. game televised by CSS.
