MSU’s Russell Still Questionable, Bulldogs To Face Troy

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI Sports) – Rebounding from a loss can be difficult. That’s the task facing the Mississippi State football team this week. The Bulldogs will face a Troy team that they beat by just six points a year ago.

They may still be without senior quarterback Tyler Russell. Mullen says today that Russell will undergo further testing this week. He still isn’t cleared for contact after the hit to the head he suffered against Oklahoma State. We may not know who will start at QB until Saturday. Mullen says he would want to start Russell if he’s cleared, but he needs to see how sharp he is in practice.

But MSU will return home Saturday, and that’s a welcoming thought.

“It’s very critical for us to win at home. That is a standard you have to set, no matter who you’re playing, you have to win your home games,” MSU head coach Dan Mullen said.

Mullen said the aspect of Saturday’s loss he’s most disappointed in is the missed tackles. There were 18 in all.

“It was just a dagger, it hurt,” sophomore quarterback Dak Prescott said. “We were right there, it was so close.”

“We got back into the locker room after the loss and we were all disappointed,” sophomore kicker Devon Bell said. “We weren’t disappointed in each other, we weren’t mad at each other, we were disappointed that we lost.”

“We got to get back to work (today), hopefully they come out with a little chip on their shoulder,” Mullen said. “To be successful you have to respond to that type of loss with the desire, that desperate desire, to get back out on the field and get back to work and work harder at things.”
