PEARL, Miss. (WCBI/Clarion-Ledger) — Nanih Waiya moved a win away from its third straight Class 1A state championship with a 7-1 victory over Greenville St. Joseph today at Trustmark Park.

Peyton Jones belted a 2-run double to spark a 4-run fourth inning for all the runs the Warriors (26-6) would need.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

Leadoff batter Luke Rosamond reached base all five times with two singles and a double and also drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch.

Dandy Dozen senior Colby Eaves, an East Central CC signee, went the distance and improved to 10-2. Eaves scattered 10 hits to go with his seven strikeouts.

Arrington Smith was 3-for-4 to lead the Fighting Irish (17-6), who are in the title series for a second straight season.
