NEMCC Honors Math, Science Students

Northeast Mississippi Community College honored students for their academic achievements in the area of math and science during the ninth annual Honors Day Ceremony held at Northeast Mississippi Community College on April 23. Joining Northeast president Dr. Johnny L. Allen, Ed.D. (right) are (from left) Math and Science Division Head Kay Crow, Blake Smith of Marietta, Clark Martin of Booneville, Jacob McDuffy of Tishomingo, and Blake Rogers of Booneville. McDuffy, Rogers and Martin all received the division’s Award for Excellence while Smith was named the Math and Science Division’s Most Outstanding Student.

BOONEVILLE, Miss. – Four Northeast Mississippi Community College students were honored for their academic achievements in the area of math and science during the ninth annual Honors Day Ceremony held at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

Math and Science Division Head Kay Crow presented Jacob Duffy of Tishomingo, Blake Rogers of Booneville and Clark Martin of Booneville with the division’s Award of Excellence.

Blake Smith of Marietta was named the Math and Science Division’s most outstanding student.

Northeast Mississippi Community College’s Honors Day Ceremony was held in the Bonner Arnold Coliseum on Tuesday, April 23 and was sponsored by the Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi, is the largest honor society in American higher education with 1,250 chapters on two-year and community college campuses in all 50 of the United States, Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. More than two million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 100,000 students inducted annually. Recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges, Phi Theta Kappa is the official honor society of two-year colleges. Northeast’s Iota Zeta is a five-start chapter, the highest rating attainable.

Advisors of the Northeast chapter are Ray Harris, Andrea Mathis, both of Booneville, Craig-Ellis Sasser of Tupelo and Susan Scott of Corinth.
