NEMCC Selects 2014 Homecoming Court

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Northeast Mississippi Community College’s student body recently selected Tatum Emmons of Booneville to reign as the college’s 2014 Homecoming Queen during campus-wide elections in early September.

Emmons and the entire 2014 Homecoming court will make their first official appearance at a pep rally on the front lawn of the Ramsey Student Services Building on Thursday, September 25 at 10:50 a.m.

Northeast 2014 Homecoming Court will officially be presented during halftime of the Tigers’ National Junior Colleges Athletic Association (NJCAA) football game against Coahoma Community College on Saturday, September 27. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.

Northeast’s 2014 Homecoming day will start with an open house at the Tigers’ new football field house from 9:30-10:30 a.m. after viewing the modern facility, alumni will head to the Black and Gold Room in the Haney Union for a reception from 10-11 a.m.

Northeast will induct its seventh Sports Hall of Fame and third class into its Alumni Hall of Fame during a recognition luncheon starting at 11 a.m. in the Claude Wright Room of the Haney Union with pre-ordered tickets costing $15.

Pre-game festivities include recognitions of the Alumni and Sports Hall of Fame inductees and the Tiger Marching Band, which will begin its pre-game performance at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Northeast’s softball team continues homecoming activities on Sunday, September 28 with its fourth annual alumni game at 2 p.m. at Booneville Westside City Park.

Northeast’s Student Government Association (SGA) also has a full week of activities lined up for students on the Booneville campus with a day of play, movie night, bingo and the annual homecoming dance all scheduled for the first four days of the week.

Emmons, a graduate of Thrasher High School, is the daughter of Allen and Lorrie Grimes.

At Northeast, Emmons has been involved in the Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, elected as a freshman maid to the 2013 Homecoming court and a 2013-14 class favorite.

Emmons currently serves as part of the 14-person Northeast cheerleading squad and placed in the Top 5 of the 2013 Most Beautiful pageant.

Emmons currently is focusing on an elementary education area of concentration while at Northeast and plans to go to Mississippi State University to become an elementary school teacher so she can help children succeed and better themselves for the future.

Joining Emmons on the 2014 Homecoming Court are sophomore maids Everley Bumpas of Booneville, Fu Meng of Corinth, Lexie Gamble of Booneville, Michaela Harper of Tishomingo, Hannah Rinehart of Kossuth and Lyndi Stokes of New Albany.

Freshmen maids include Carli Bullard of Booneville, Kerica Settle of Tupelo, Carolyn Davidson and Hannah Knight, both of Tishomingo and Lindee Witt and Marnesha Green, both of Corinth round out the 13-member court.

Northeast holds a 30-8 record in the series with Coahoma since the two schools started playing each other in 1976 and has beaten the visiting Tigers six of the last seven times in Tiger Stadium dating back to 2001.

Since Northeast first played Coahoma for homecoming in 1987, the homestanding Tigers hold a 7-1 mark in the homecoming series taking decisions in 1987, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2013.

Coahoma’s only homecoming spoiler came in 2009 when the Tigers upended Northeast 20-14 in a dramatic four-overtime thriller.
