NEMCC Selects Student Government Association Officers

BOONEVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Northeast Mississippi Community College students recently elected three members from the college’s student population to serve in the chief positions of the school’s Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2014-15 academic year.

In April, online campus-wide elections were held for all potential candidates who qualified to run for the vacant office positions of president, vice-president and secretary.

Hunter W. Thompson of Kossuth, Haleigh Tennison of Booneville and Luke Waddell of Booneville were elected as president, vice-president and secretary for the college’s student body, respectively.

Thompson, Tennison and Waddell replace outgoing officers: president Kaitlin Wallace of Tishomingo, vice-president Wesley Brandon of Belmont and secretary Alexis Burt of Bruce.

During the spring semester of each year, three sophomore students are elected to serve as president, vice-president and secretary for the upcoming academic year and ease the transition between school years. Additional council members – class and dorm representatives – are selected during campus-wide elections in the fall semester.

Three freshmen representatives, three sophomore representatives, and six dormitory representatives will be elected during the 2014 fall semester to complete the SGA Council for the 2014-15 academic year.

Upon enrollment at Northeast, each student becomes a member of the Student Government Association, which is charged with planning activities and programs for the student body and to present helpful suggestions to the faculty and administration. Northeast’s Student Government Association also acts in an advisory capacity to the college’s student population.

Students interested in getting involved with student activities on campus should contact the Office of Student Activities located in the Haney Union.
