New Albany Nurse Faces Drug Charges

Jessica Gaines

FROM PRESS RELEASE

Jackson, MS–A New Albany woman has been arrested on three charges of illegally acquiring or obtaining possession of a controlled substance, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today.

Jessica Gaines, 28, reported to the Lafayette County Sheriff on Thursday, June 27, on a capias issued by a Lafayette County Grand Jury on June 7.

On September 10, 2012, Gaines was employed as a Registered Nurse at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford when she allegedly stole controlled substances by using an off-duty nurse’s electronic medication dispensing machine log-in code to gain access to Hydromorphone and Morphine Sulfate. The hospital became suspicious during a review of the electronic dispensing system reports and contacted authorities.

If convicted, Gaines faces up to five years behind bars on each count and a fine of up to $1,000. She is currently free on a $5,000 bond.
