New Albany to Host Free Live Music Saturdays Through Nov. 9

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (Press Release) — New Albany Tourism and New Albany’s Main Street Association are teaming up to bring free concerts to downtown every Saturday through November 9th. The concerts will be held at the newly opened Trailhead Plaza at 100 E Bankhead, between Trails & Treads and Van Atkins.

“We had so many complements on the trailhead at Riverfest that we wanted to continue the activities downtown throughout the fall and thought music would be a good way to do it,” says Sean Johnson the city’s marketing director.

There will be two performances each day: the first will be from 10 am until Noon and the second will be in the evenings from 5 – 7 p.m. “Our hope is that the morning bike riders will take some time and relax at the trailhead and perhaps grab lunch in New Albany and do some afternoon shopping,” says Johnson. The evening shows will showcase the lights at the trailhead and the lights downtown which were featured in Mississippi Magazine last year.

While the list of performers has not yet been nailed down, the music will be mainly acoustic music similar to what was performed on the arts and market stages during Riverfest. “We have a good pool of musical talent in the area, so we’re confident that we’re going to be able to provide some quality entertainment downtown,” says Johnson.

The performances will take place each Saturday beginning October 11th and will culminate with a special performance on Sunday November 9th in conjunction with Downtown Main Street’s Holiday Open House.

“The Trailhead Plaza development creates a great outdoor entertainment area for residents and visitors. Main Street is excited to be a part of this music series,” says Vickie Duke, New Albany’s Main Street Director.

The performances are being sponsored by New Albany Tourism and New Albany Main Street but the two organizations are open to having other sponsors involved. Organizers also welcome civic clubs who would like to volunteer for the information booth to be set up at the venue.
