COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus City Council made some tough decisions tonight for two top appointments.

Both Whirllie Byrd and Nadia Dale were appointed to the Convention and Visitors Bureau for the next three years. Dale was voted in unanimously while Byrd was selected by a vote of 4 to 2. Gregory Lewis is now the newest member of the Columbus School Board. Lewis was voted in 3 to 2, while Councilman Taylor recused himself from the vote for personal reasons. Lewis is currently serving on two other boards but says those appointments will not affect his efforts in Columbus.

I’m a service person. That’s what I do. Whether I am on the Board or not. Being placed on the school board is ok. I do that everyday anyway. I’m always at the school. I have a child in the school I’m always volunteering for the school so it’s business as usual.

Lewis will serve on the Columbus School Board for the next five years and will replace Aubra Turner next month.
