New Group of Troopers Graduate

Keeping our highways safe … that’s the role of cadet class 61 of the Mississippi Highway Ppatrol.

There are 48new state troopers, all sworn in today at a graduation ceremony on the Hinds Community College campus.

These new troopers were accepted into a class that began in early November.

West point native Brandon Berry says it is an honor to be coming home.

” It’s a great feeling getting to go back home and protect the people of my home county and the Golden Triangle. It’s just a great feeling to be able to support this state and county as well,” said Berry, who has been assigned to Starkville-based Troop G.

The academy is a rigorous training program for future troopers. With this new class, the number of state troopers on Mississippi highways is now near 530. That’s still about 100 below full staffing.
