OKOLONA, Miss. – (WCBI)Okolona’s school board is getting down to business.

From hiring a superintendent to overseeing the school district, the board has high hopes for the future.

Monday was the first meeting for the newly appointed team. This is also the first time a board has been in charge of Okolona schools, since the state took over three years ago.

They spent two hours discussing their budget, as well as the district’s needs to meet state regulations.

For now, board members are asking for the community’s support.

” We have a lot of work to do, but I think most of the board members are up for the challenge. I think that everybody in the community is every supportive. We had a good turnout here today in the district, which shows that we have the support of the community,” says Board President Jerome Smith.

The board hopes to have a superintendent hired by early summer.
