Video: New Orleans Super Bowl XLVII Fan Fun

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WCBI) – The past week the city of new orleans has been bustling with football fans in town for Super Bowl XLVII between the san francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens. Along with the CBS Network, WCBI News was in town covering it all.

The biggest, grandest, most-watched single event in American sports is in New Orleans for the 47th Annual Super Bowl between the top two teams in the NFL.

Close to 75,000 cheering football fans will pack the Superdome Sunday for the big game. But it’s the festivities leading up to the big show that has brought so many to enjoy the experience. WCBI caught up with some Mississippi State University students in town for it all.

MSU Junior Kelly Bartlett says, “We got to do various activities from working with kids ages three to 12, then we worked with older adults who wanted to referee a game. It’s been fun.”

As volunteers the students are soaking up all the action.

The NFL Experience is an ongoing feature that is held in every Super Bowl host city. This years Experience is being held in the convention center where thousands of football fans will enjoy a pro football interactive theme park, games, displays, entertainment attractions, a kids’ football clinics and free autograph sessions.

MSU graduate student Ross Rastede says, “It’s a once in a life time opportunity and as a student in the sports industry this is kinda what we look for. It’s the one thing that is going to separate you apart from all the other students.”

Youngsters have opportunities to punt, run and pass and be scored on their efforts.

Bartlett says, “Tomorrow we have training for the Super Bowl itself. We’ll be directional hosts on Sunday.”

But its more than just about having fun. There is a bunch of work that goes on behind the scenes to make the Super Bowl a big hit.

CBS Sports Executive Vice President of Production Harold Bryant says, “I think the biggest challenge is always the space. Because these productions continue to grow. We’ve got 62 cameras in the game, another 30 on the pregame, we have 30 out in Jackson Square and we’ve got dozens of trucks.”

This will be the 10th Super Bowl held in New Orleans since 1970, putting the city into a tie with Miami for the most by any single location. This years Super Bowl is more than just a three-hour game between the top-seeded teams of the NFL. For the City of New Orleans it’s been a weeklong extravaganza.
