Bill Gamel was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He began his broadcasting career as a disc jockey at a small radio station in Selma , Alabama in 1973. The following year he moved from radio to television, working as a “switcher”(also in Selma ) and eventually began directing all local programming, including the local newscast.
In 1980, he came to WCBI, where he directed the 6 and 10 newscast. After a five year sabbatical from broadcasting, he returned to WCBI in 1986 where he began co-hosting Midday and reporting sports. In 1995, he began co-anchoring Sunrise and moved from Sports to News.
In his spare time, he enjoys following University of Alabama football and basketball. He also enjoys golf and hanging out with his bride of four years (as of 2005), the former Susan McKenzie. They currently reside in Starkville.
