Meet Tommy | Video
Tommy Lopez grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia playing sports ranging from baseball and basketball to swimming and cross country running. He learned about the broadcasting business from a young age watching his father work as a radio DJ in Virginia and North Carolina.
He has been a Wahoo his whole life (that means he’s loyal to the University of Virginia, for those of you who don’t know). He became a sports fan going to the Cavalier’s football, basketball and baseball games and attending Orioles games in Baltimore. He’s excited to transition from the ACC to the SEC and learn what football in the South is all about.
Tommy earned a degree in Mass Communications from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia in 2013. He worked at radio stations WINA and WKAV and interned with WCAV-TV and WRIC-TV while in Virginia. He has received awards at the collegiate level from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America.
He knows he’s not from the South (even though Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy) and can’t wait to get a taste of southern cuisine.
