TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A special memorial service was held Saturday afternoon. Hosted by the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice, it was a time for families to remember their loved ones.

At Harrisburg Baptist Church, more than 200 families gathered to honor their loved ones who have passed away throughout the past year.

The memorial service is a chance for the families to be reunited with the hospice staff and volunteers who provided care to their family members.

Butterflies were released after the memorial service in honor of those loved ones.

Organizers say the program is an opportunity to provide families to share their memories during the grieving process.

“Its just a wonderful program. We had a service beforehand, before the butterfly release that was very emotional but very healing and we appreciate all of them who were able to come today,” Jamie Grisson, Hospice Bereavement Coordinator, said.

The North Mississippi Medical Center Honor Guard was also at the program presenting the American flag.
