NMMC President Leaving for Texas

TUPELO, Miss. -Steve Altmiller, president of North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, announced today that he is resigning July 15 to become president/chief executive officer of Good Shepherd Health System in Longview Texas.

Altmiller has served as NMMC-Tupelo’s president since August 2009. “Steve has done an excellent job here, and he will be sorely missed,” said John Heer, president and chief executive officer of North Mississippi Health Services, NMMC’s parent organization. “I certainly agree with his decision to move closer to family and wish him the best of luck in his new role.”

He previously served as president and chief executive officer of San Juan Regional Medical Center, a 240-bed facility in Farmington, N.M. His work experience also includes serving as chief executive officer with AMI/Tenet Health Care Corporation and Bayou City Medical Center in Houston, Texas; senior vice president and chief operating officer of Park Place Hospital and Mid Jefferson Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas; vice president of operations and finance with West Alabama General Hospital in Northport; and chief financial officer for East Cooper Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

Altmiller is a cum laude graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in accounting from Ohio State University in Columbus and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Alabama. He is a certified public accountant.

He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and holds membership in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a past recipient of the American Hospital Association’s Grassroots Champion Award. He and his wife, Ginny, have two adult children.
