COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A suspicious man on campus puts a Columbus elementary school on lockdown Mondays morning.

Police and school administrators say students at Joe Cook Fine Arts Magnet School were never in danger this morning and that the lockdown was a standard security precaution. Police were called just before 10 this morning when the man in a red shirt was spotted.

Police quickly responded and questioned the man, eventually sending him to Baptist Behavioral Health for an evaluation.

The lockdown lasted about 30 minutes. Schools across the country put stricter security precautions in place following the December shooting at a Newtown, Ct., school.
