COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Churches from all over North Mississippi gathered at the Riverwalk Sunday afternoon for a gospel concert and to collectively pray for the city.

The event was organized by the Kingdom Vision International Church in Columbus. Churches from as far as Tupelo attended the prayer service. Columbus Mayor Robert Smith and Councilman Joseph Mickens were also on hand. Along with gospel music, there was food and games for the children. Pastor J. R. Matthews says bringing communities together is a great first step in bringing about positive change.

“We know there are so many various things going on in our city, surrounding cities and all over the nation. We know there is hope through Jesus Christ. We wanted to just come out and love on the city, love on the community and let God do great things here,” says Matthews.

After the concert, the church members planned to walk through each Columbus ward to pray for families.
