[jwplatform J7koRQj1]PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — It was a chance for students at North Pontotoc High School to hear about the inner workings of government and also an opportunity for students to ask a congressman a wide range of questions.

First District Congressman Alan Nunnelee talked with seniors taking a U. S. government and Mississippi studies course.

Nunnelee talked about his time in the state Senate, and also about his current job as a congressman representing Northeast Mississippi in Washington.

Students questioned the congressman about everything from Obamacare, support for agriculture and the job market for graduating seniors. The Republican representative also encouraged seniors to do several things.

“Stay in school, graduate, we’ve got a lot of opportunities in advanced manufacturing and they may very well require community college degree. I also encouraged them to be involved in the political process, self government will not work without people’s involvement,” Nunnelee advised.

Nunnelee returns to Washington Monday when Congress will be back in session.
