Northeast Mississippi Students Selected for MSMS

COLUMBUS, Miss. (Press Release) — The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is pleased to announce that the Class of 2016 has been selected, and the following students from your area have been admitted into the highly selective school.

Jonathan Donoho, of Columbus, is the son of Curtis and Shaine Donoho. He currently attends New Hope High School.

Rosalind Ellis, of Crawford, is the daughter of Tameka Rice. She currently attends West Lowndes High School.

Tyler Etheridge, of Columbus, is the son of Marlene Etheridge. He currently attends Caledonia High School.

Bri Jones, of Steens, is the daughter of Lakonja Jones. She currently attends New Hope High School.

Jared Oakes, of Columbus, is the son of Edward and Hope Oakes. He currently attends Columbus High School.

LaTonia Parker, of Columbus, is the daughter of Larry and Tonia Parker. She currently attends New Hope High School.

Jesse Pugsley, of Caledonia, is the son of Scott and Shelly Pugsley. He currently attends Caledonia High School.

Benjamin Jones, of Tupelo, is the son of Phillip Jones and Denise Jones. He currently attends Tupelo Christian Preparatory School.

Bram Finkle, of Saltillo, is the son of David Finkle and Sandra Finkle. He currently attends Saltillo High School.

Jo Orrick, of Belden, is the daughter of John Orrick and Deborah Orrick. She currently attends Tupelo High School.

Lauren Hill, of Tupelo, is the daughter of Brian Hill and Debra Hill. She currently attends Tupelo Christian Preparatory School.

Carly Sneed, of Pontotoc, is the daughter of Harold Sneed and Denita Sneed. She currently attends North Pontotoc High School.

Jacob McDonald, of Pontotoc, is the son of Lanny McDonald and Pam McDonald. He currently attends North Pontotoc High School.

Franklin Hollis IV, of Vardaman, is the son of Franklin Hollis III and Hope Hollis. He currently attends Vardaman High School.

Andrew Brown, of Oxford, is the son of Denise Brown and Lillie Brown. He currently attends Oxford High School.

Greta Koshenina, of Water Valley, is the daughter of Paul Koshenina and Anna Koshenina. She currently attends Water Valley High School.

Jenny Bobo, of Okolona, is the daughter of Richard Bobo and Sara Bobo. She currently attends Tupelo High School.

Rachel Bobo, of Okolona, is the daughter of Richard Bobo and Sara Bobo. She currently attends Tupelo High School.

Kristian Hall, of Aberdeen, is the daughter of Lisa Atkinson. She currently attends Amory High School.

Ella Stone, of Tupelo, is the daughter of Richard Stone and Jamie Stone. She is currently home schooled.

Hannah Hardwick, of Burnsville, is the daughter of Keith Hardwick and Kim Hardwick. She currently attends Alcorn Central High School.

Madeline Mixon, of Eupora, is the daughter of Kimmy Mixon and Robin Mixon. She currently attends Eupora High School.

These students vied with nearly 200 other Mississippi sophomores for the 135 slots available for the MSMS Class of 2016. Each student underwent a rigorous application process, which involved writing essays, submitting resumes, securing letters of recommendation, and submitting an original math or science project. Students’ grades and ACT scores were also taken into consideration during the application phase. The Class of 2016 has an average incoming ACT score of 25.

For more than 25 years, the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science has existed as the state’s only public, residential high school specifically designed to meet the needs of the Magnolia State’s most academically gifted students. Located on the Mississippi University for Women’s campus in Columbus, Miss., MSMS plays host to students during their junior and senior years of high school. MSMS students live and work on campus with other talented students from all corners of the state of Mississippi. Currently, students from more than 50 different counties make up the population of MSMS. The newly selected class of 2016 alone represents 45 Mississippi counties. On average, MSMS students are offered about $12.5 million each year in scholarship dollars from colleges and universities all over the world. In their last ranking, MSMS was named by Newsweek and The Daily Beast as one of the best high schools in America.
