Noxubee County High to Get $1,000 Check

MACON, Miss. – The physical education program at Noxubee County High School will receive a $1,000 check on Friday, February 13, 2015 as the Class 4A winner of the “Text to Win” Contest held during the 2014 Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic football championship game at Davis Wade Stadium at Mississippi State University. The check presentation will take place at 7:15 p.m. during the school’s last home game of the basketball season.

The “Text to Win” Contest gives fans another way to support their team by texting in during the days leading up to each championship game. The team with the most text entries at the end of each game would receive $1,000 to be earmarked for its physical education program. Noxubee County bested Stanislaus in the texting match, as well as taking home the Class 4A title. Noxubee County finished the season 14-2, winning their third state championship since 2008.

“This money will make a difference because funds are limited due to cuts from the federal government,” said Holli Jenkins, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director of Noxubee County High School. “With the governor’s health initiative for students, we will to able to add equipment for our physical education department. This will really help us.”

“Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi supports Mississippi students in establishing healthy habits early in life,” said Meredith Bailess, Director of Corporate Communications at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi. “Physical education programs and high school athletics provide important opportunities to learn the benefits of staying active, eating well, as well as setting and working to meet goals. Partnering with the MHSAA to support our schools and communities is another way that we work toward a healthy future for our state.”

Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi was the title sponsor for the 2014 MHSAA Football Championship and continues its support of Mississippi’s student athletes with further sponsorship of MHSAA championship events including cheer & dance, basketball, track & field, baseball, softball, tennis and power lifting.
