OCH Infant Fair

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — The arrival of a baby can be exciting, frightening and wonderful all at once. New parents have all sorts of questions amid their joy. That’s why OCH Regional Medical Center offers an annual Special Beginnings Maternity and Infant Fair. The event serves to create an opportunity for new and expectant parents to obtain a variety of valuable information. The 19th annual Fair is scheduled in the OCH Educational Facility from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

According to OCH Perinatal Educator Paula Hamilton, RNC, IBCLC, updated information on car seat safety and cribs will be available along with other topics that include labor and delivery; infant/toddler CPR and first aid; diet and nutrition for expectant mothers, newborns and toddlers; safe prenatal and postnatal exercise; infant care; postpartum care and many others.

Booths focusing on OCH’s array of labor and delivery services, as well as the prepared childbirth, breastfeeding, grandparenting, sibling and babysitting classes offered through OCH will also be available.

In addition, representatives from Starkville Clinic for Women, Starkville Pediatrics, Center for Breast Health & Imaging, La Leche League and other clinics and community organizations/businesses will be on-site to provide information and special demonstrations.

A booth featuring information about Medela breast pumps, which may be rented through OCH and far surpass the quality of pumps available to the general public for purchase over-the-counter, will also be available, along with details about the nationally-recognized Mom 365, which is also offered at OCH and was created to enhance infant and childhood security.

Hamilton said representatives from the OCH Business Office will be available to assist those wishing to get pre-admitted, and “I’m a Big Brother” and “I’m a Big Sister” T-shirts for new or soon-to-be brothers and sisters will be available for purchase at the Fair, as well.

In addition, the Fair will also include a visit to the hospital’s Special Beginnings Gift Shop and feature tours of the labor & delivery, nursery and postpartum areas at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be provided, and numerous door prizes, including complimentary prenatal, breastfeeding, sibling and grandparenting classes, Wellness Connection Parent & Tot swim classes, two 30-minute massages and donations from area merchants such as a photography session and diapers will be given away at the Fair, which is free and open to the public.

“Our staff provides state-of-the-art maternity care with a personal touch to more than 1,000 new babies and their mothers each year,” Hamilton said. “And, we are committed to making the amazing experience of becoming a parent as wonderful as it should be. Whether it’s helping ease fears or providing the information needed to be well-prepared, we’re here to help.”
