STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — October 10th could be an important day for Starkville’s long effort to expand city offices.

That’s the date a Chancery Court judge will hear William McGovern’s claims city officials violated a variety of state open meetings and ethics rules in reaching an agreement to turn the old city electric department site into a city hall and revamp the existing city hall into a police department.

Earlier this year, aldermen agreed to a 20-year lease deal with West Brothers Construction that officials say won’t cost taxpayers more money and doesn’t need a public referendum.

McGovern is challenging the process.
