Video: Oktibbeha Lake Set to Open this Summer

OKTIBBEHA CO., Miss. – (WCBI) Summer just got cooler in Oktibbeha County. The Oktibbeha County Lake will not only be open, it will have more amenities.

Former Bulldog Coach Rick Stansbury and John Barnett are turning a portion of the lake into the Wet and Wild Water Park. Fishermen can still cast a line, just not within the 24 acres surrounding the park and campgrounds.

The debate began last March when the Army Corps of Engineers did not renew their lease. The Oktibbeha County School district decided to lease their portion to Stansbury and Barnett for their water park.

Now, county leaders have fallen in line and leased their remaining 300 acres to the duo. Supervisors say its an agreement that will benefit everyone.

” We are excited about it. We are going to be able to have the lake remain under the same control and we are looking forward to citizens to enjoy, not only fishing, like they have before, we are also looking forward to them being able to enjoy amenities that the Wet and Wild group are going to bring to the lake,” says Board President Orlando Trainer.

The lake is still closed until the renovations for Wet and Wild are completed.

The move passed unanimously Monday.
